Do I need to flash the BIOS?

If your system is working without any problem or conflict, we strongly advice that you do not upgrade the BIOS. Trying to flash a working BIOS might result in a non-working motherboard in the event of a power failure or using the wrong BIOS file. A BIOS upgrade will usually contain one or more of the following: Additional BIOS features, bug fixes and/or additional CPU support.

I have compatibility issues with my new CPU or a device and I want to flash the BIOS.

Warning! Do not flash the BIOS unless you are sure your problem is BIOS related.

To flash your BIOS, you'll need to download AWDFLASH.EXE and the BIOS file for your specific motherboard xxxxx.Bxx(name of BIOS file). Copy these two files onto a bootable floppy free of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, boot the system with the bootable floppy, and type AWDFLASH at DOS prompt. When asked what file to program with, type in xxxxx.Bxx(name of file) and follow on-screen instructions to complete the update process. It is a good idea to save a copy of the old BIOS when asked. After restarting the system, enter the CMOS setup and load "BIOS defaults" or "LOAD SETUP(or OPTIMIZED) DEFAULTS."
